To kickoff a “Lego Movie”-themed F!rosh week at the faculty of Engineering in University of Toronto, aka, SKuleTM, I designed the t-shirts, presentation slides and social media graphics for the You’re Next Career Network.

Ideation + Sketches

Before designing, I watched the Lego Movie with the design team and we chatted about how we would integrate this theme with our kickoff events. I put the emphasis on letting the student being Emmet from the movie, who discovers his purpose and fights the evil Lord Business. I also tried to make it playful by using lego people and adding appropriate tag lines that’s relevant to the movie and also to the value propositions of YNCN.

Mockups

The second design in particular highlights one lego man in YNCN’s colour to emphasis “You’re Next” and evoke an action “Ask Me How”, which is the purpose of the shirt – getting frosh to be interested in learning more about what YNCN the organization, and what YNCN has prepared to “kickoff” for first years.

Final Design

The final design was based on design 2. The 9 lego men on the outside depict the 9 discipline in engineering: Chemical, Civil, Computer, Industrial, Mining, (YNCN), Mechanical and Engineering Science (the bomb), in clockwise direction.

The backside carried the conversation bubble from the font and included the tagline for the event.
